Veggie Ideas

Here are a few ideas of how to get more veggies into your diet:

1) When Avi is asleep, wash and cut up a ton of carrots and celery sticks, store in your fridge in water, any time you are hungry, open the fridge and grab a few sticks...you can do this with radishes as well

2) Buy lettuce and/or other greens, wash them as soon as you buy them, cut them up and store in a ziplock bag with a wet piece of paper towel, use handfuls for super quick salads, if it is chard or kale or spinach, you can cook it up in just a few minutes, cook it with VOO or coconut oil, salt & pepper. Throw it in the pan with your eggs and it will cook down perfectly

3) Batch cooking - when you have time, cook up a ton of veggies like turnips and/or cauliflower, mash it like mash potatoes and store in your fridge, this is a great way to get in a ton or veggies, replace for mashed potatoes. Cook large amounts all at once, and work your way through them throughout the week

4) Puree carrots and use it in the place of sweeteners in soups, muffins, sauces

I pretty much try to throw veggies into every meal, even breakfast.

Good luck!

This is our week

Come hell or high water we will:
1) make it to the Y at least 3x this week
2) we will update our eating habits daily
3) we will smile even though gas prices are completely ridiculous

On a side note I had an enormous salad today with loads of veggies :)
I'm hoping to make a pilgrimage to DE in March, hopefully we can play.

Back on the Wagon

I can't even remember what I ate last week, all I know is that I pretty much didn't eat Saturday & Sunday, I assume I get additional calories burned as well as negative food calories for puking.

As I puked all weekend, I figured it is a great time to weigh in. :-) I am pretty certain I will go back up once I start eating again, but hey, let's celebrate the little things!

Allouette is a year old today and I am two pounds lighter then when I got pregnant with her.

Weight = 148

Hooray!

Goals for the week:
1 - I don't think I will make it to the gym today, my morning walk pretty much wiped out my energy, but I hope to make it there Tuesday-Friday.

2 - Get back on my fertility diet....again, ugh.

3 - Eat breakfast every day before 9am.

Weight check in
So I had my annual girly exam today and I about fell off the scale. 143! That's only 3 pounds away from my pre pregnancy weight! So, I guess my new weight goal is to get to my wedding weight. Ha! 120, I can dream right?

Goals for tomorrow:
1) clean bathrooms.
2) some workout DVD since the YMCA is out until avi is 100% better
3) visiting teaching
4) girls night out is at 8pm. I'm hoping I can find a sitter

Thank you for your kind words. It is amazing what food, sleep, a shower and a loving husband who takes a day off work can do for a person. I thank you for your unfailing friendship. It means so much to me.

Thinking About You.

I am glad you told me! It is nothing to be embarrassed about, so many women deal with some level of ppd, those damn hormones. :-) Just keep moving forward, sister. Months ago I had a friend that was also having a difficult time with ppd, and she said the best thing she did to get through it was to plan one goal to achieve and one activity to do every day, for example, her goal would be to get up and take a shower and her activity would be going to the library. Simple little things that she could build her day around. She spent months working on just doing those two things each day and once she felt like she could conquer a goal and an activity, she went up to two goals and two activities, she continued like that until she made it out of the woods.

Seriously, if you are sad, think to yourself, "self, today I will not be sad, today I will be awesome" and no matter how much you feel like crap, just keeping telling yourself that you will be awesome.

Being a mom & a wife is tough stuff, and no one expects you to be perfect, all we can do is try, sometimes we will fall short, but that's life, you got to keep on moving.

Going under

So in all honesty I probably wouldn't be telling u this if mike wasn't making me. I've been struggling with ppd since Avi was born and this week I hit an all time low. Mike wanted me to tell you so you wouldn't think I had abanded you. I am hoping I can keep up with the blog this week but right now I'm just trying to keep up with life. I promise to return soon!!! Keep blogging and beat that cold sister!!!

Still no idea, I know I have had about 36oz, but not exactly sure.

Can you believe how many calories are in corn? Totally shocking! Looks like I need to be more mindful about leaving corn out of our meals.

Goals for next week:
This is going to be a super tough week to stay on my diet, as I have days filled with cooking for Autumn's baby shower on Thursday and then Allouette's birthday party on Saturday. I kid you not, full days of cooking super yummy things, I just don't know how I am going to do it. I am really hoping/planning to make it to the gym Monday-Friday, but it is going to be tough! Additionally, with the weather being so cold out here, I don't think morning walks are going to be happening. We usually don't make it if it is below 28(ish), and so all in all, this is not a very promising week. That means you will have to do SUPER good, to count for the both of us!

Good Luck!

I really have no idea, I am sure it was less than 22oz

So clearly there is a HUGE gap in there from my pitiful breakfast to my super yummy dinner. I usually miss meals when working on the house, they just seem to get pushed to the side. I am sure there are a few things I am missing, like bites here and there while I am making meals for Allouette, but I really can't remember it at this point.

Where, Oh Where, Has Ashley Been?

Sorry! I am way behind! Learon and I have been crazy busy this weekend. We finished painting our hallways and upstairs landing and we finished building our pallet buffet table for the dining room, plus we got started on these old windows that I am turning into mirrors, it has been a very productive weekend in the Bird House! To be honest, the entire weekend now feels like a blur. I also taught in YW today and so with prep, painting and building, Saturday & Sunday completely disappeared. I did however squeeze in some time to make a test batch of Allouette's cinnamon roll pumpkin pancakes for her big birthday party next week and they turned out awesome! I am sure they have about a million calories, I will have to try and calculate that next.

So, there you have it, your blogging buddy has not disappeared, just worked until well after mid-night on Saturday and is just now is getting a chance blog. Stay tuned, I am going to try and catch up.

Yeah, I ate so horribly today. I full blame it on play group as we do a pot luck each week and this week people pretty much only brought junk food. Since the day started off so horribly, I decided that it would be my Mardi Gras day and so we had pizza for dinner. Total junk, I tell ya. Also missed the morning walk as it was 18 degrees this morning and that is a little too cold for Allouette!

I did however stay the course for my goal to go to the gym Monday - Friday, so that is huge! I really did not want to go today, but I did and I am so proud of myself!

Have a really great weekend!

Missed my walk because of the snow, total bummer as missing the walk really takes a hit on the calories burned. I also baked a trial run of Allouette's cake, which turned out SO GOOD, and cost me big on the calories!

Super proud of you for buying all the fruits and veggies, now the trick is to eat them up before they go bad. ;-)
Not sure about a cabbage recipe, I usually saute mine in butter, yum!

On a side, that baby of yours has teeth, just give her the lasagna cut into smaller pieces and let her go crazy, she will love it. Allouette has been eating non-mashed food for months now, and she barely has one tooth, it will save you time and excess energy just let it cool and cut it up into smaller pieces.

Wish us luck with Avi at the babysitting center tomorrow.

Mini Update

You'll be so proud!  Aviana and I went to the farmer's market and purchased:
1) Corn (total GMO, but it's a veggie)
2) Broccoli (no clue)
3) Oranges (probably GMO too)
4) Yellow squash (no clue...)
5) Fuji apples (prob GMO)
6) Cauliflower (def. GMO)
7) Carrots (organic)
8) My personal favorite, hand squeezed apple cider, DELICIOUS!

I intend to make 3 things this evening
1) Cole slaw...I picked up some REAL apple cider vinegar, and figured I'd try it out on my cabbage and carrots, wish me luck
2) Lasagna.
3) Veggie pizza

I'm thinking I may puree up some of the lasagna for Avi.  She liked me beef stew and LOVED the chicken/rice/cauliflower combo.

*I need to find a good recipe for the rest of the cabbage....any suggestions?  Veggie soup?

I also purchased a 7 layer salad at the farmer's market.  The sucker is HUGE and was only $3!!

*Mike took the day off from the Y, so Avi got to stay home and play with daddy.  However, she was still crazy clingy today.  I couldn't sit down with her on me.  It's starting to get a little weird.
In other news, guess whose zumba class was starred on the 6'o'clock news tonight....as far as I know anyway.  I'll have to look online and see if it really did air.

And don't worry about not losing!!  You just picked up weight training.  You're building muscle right now.  Remember that muscle EATS fat!!  Hooray!!

Weigh In

Bummer, I only lost a pound, not sure why, I am going to review my food intake, I am thinking I need to add more protein to breakfast and eat dinner earlier. I also think I need to review my salt intake. Thank goodness today is a full cardio day workout, it looks like I could really use the additional calorie burn.
